After practicing as a psychotherapist for 20 years, I thought I had experienced almost everything. I have seen this in my own clients but until it happened to me, you just don’t know! I thought I was going to have a heart attack. On the outside, I tried to be cool but inside, I was freaked out! I didn’t know if I was going to make it through the night. I went to the Emergency Room. After waiting to get in, the nurse and doctor’s diagnosis came in, “anxiety attack”. I responded, “Really! I feel like like my heart is pounding out of chest and my head is going to pop!” They explained to me this was typical even though my blood pressure was slightly elevated. Though I was relieved, I wanted it to stop, now!
When you are in this state, a pharmaceutical will be acceptable even though it may not be the best option. I took it to break up the pattern. I didn’t know about herbology and at that time, I could not imagine that a traditional Chinese herbs or formula would have been just as effective. In this stressed out state, you want fast, potent relief.
All these symptoms, I have found relief for now, naturally (food & traditional Chinese herbs):
- Worry you might have a heart attack
- Afraid of everything
- Difficulty concentrating, short-term memory loss
- Difficulty thinking, speaking, forming thoughts, following conversations
- Disorientation
- Fear of going crazy
- Fear of losing control
- Fear of impending doom
- Feelings of unreality
- Frequent feeling of being overwhelmed, or that there is just too much to handle or do
- Having difficulty concentrating
- Nightmares, bad dreams
- Repetitive thinking or incessant ‘mind chatter’
- Short-term learning impairment, have a hard time learning new information
- Short-term memory impairment, can’t remember what I did a few days, hours, or moments ago
- Spaced out feelings, feeling spaced out
- “Stuck” thoughts; thoughts, mental images, concepts, songs, or melodies that “stick” in your mind and replay over and over again.
- Trapped in your mind feeling
- You often feel you are carrying the world on your shoulders
This is a short list! I could list 150 more. For the last 17 years, I have been dedicated to finding alternative medicine explanations and Chinese medicine formulas for the last 17 years that assist people through this transition. Look at the advanced, natural strategies below.
Causation is well established. When enough stress is presented to the physical-mental-emotional body, the above conditions are likely to surface. We all would do well to notice and take action. It is not enough to alleviate the symptoms but taking a break while we search for answers is an advisable strategy. Take care of yourself, rest, exercise, be around caring people until you can master the challenges you are confronted with. Eat food and take natural herbs that don’t add to the imbalance but rather help in re-establishing your center.
ANXIETY: FOOD THERAPY
Foods that Relieve & Foods to Avoid
Foods to Counter Anxiety: Apricot, Cherry, Date, Fig, Grape, Grapefruit, Olive, Papaya, Peach, Strawberry, Tomato, Beet, Button mushroom, Cabbage, Carrot, Celery, Chard, Cucumber, Eggplant, Kuzu, Lettuce, Potato, Shitake mushroom, Spearmint, Squash, Sweet Potato, Yam, Almond, Chestnut, Coconut, Sesame seed/oil, Sunflower seed, Amasake, stevia, Agave nectar, Ganoderm, Dill, Basil, Mulberry, Lemons, Brown rice, Oats, Ghee, Green tea
Foods to Avoid: Tofu, Tempeh, Soy milk, Spinach, Miso, Asparagus, , Millet, Salt, Seaweed, Tangerine, Pinenut, Persimmon, Pear, Honey, Sugar, Oyster, Clam, Mussel, Pork, Peanut
Individual Constitution will affect outcomes from all foods. For instance, a person that has a cold constitution should not eat foods that make the body colder. If they do, pain will show up wherever one feels cold. Body organs will slow in function, etc. But in general the above selection benefits most people. If you want to get customized then I would suggest contacting, specifically, an Asian Medicine Herbalist. Notice I didn’t say accupuncturist. It is very important to find some who specializes in Chinese herbology to get a high performing practitioner regarding customized food and herbs strategies.

CAUSE OF ANXIETY FROM ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE PERSPECTIVE
The formula derived from an old heart formula from Traditional Chinese herbs and Medicine for the heart and the application of herb extracts from American herbology utilized for improving the mood. One of my teachers from Sichuan Province-China, developed the heart formula 50 years ago. The primary formula benefit is nourishment and energy support for a healthy heart.
In particular, when the heart becomes weakened, or energy deficient, the ingredients aid the heart’s energy, This calms the chest area. The additional herbs from North America, in combination with the Chinese development, relax all the channels from the heart to the brain. This relieves tension in the channels and circulation system which gives the sense of ease in the upper part of the body and head.
